Payroll Allocation
& Billing Automation

A complicated payroll allocation and billing process involved multiple data sources, repetitive spreadsheet work, and manual calculations. I examined how the pieces fit together and rebuilt the process in Excel and Power Query, bringing calculations, validation, billing support, and journal entry preparation into one repeatable workflow.

The challenge was bringing together information from multiple sources while keeping the calculations accurate and the results easy to review. I mapped the existing steps, identified where manual work could be reduced, and built a repeatable Excel and Power Query process. The updated workflow consolidated calculations, validation, billing support, and journal entry preparation into a refresh-and-review approach.

Federal Salary Cap
Tracking & Reporting

Federal salary-cap reporting relied on separate employee workbooks, manual payroll-allocation updates, and recurring calculations. I developed a centralized Excel and Power Query workflow to bring the information together, apply salary-cap calculations, and make monthly and year-to-date reporting easier to prepare and review.

The existing process required updating separate employee workbooks and repeating calculations each pay period. I brought the allocation information into a centralized workflow, built the salary-cap calculations, and created refreshable monthly and year-to-date reporting. This reduced repetitive preparation while making the information easier to maintain and review.

Behind Black Fern

Accounting experience.
Process-improvement
mindset.

I'm Coreena, the person behind Black Fern. I started this business because I want to put my skills to work for small businesses and nonprofits that care deeply about what they do and the people they serve.

I've always had a knack for figuring out how things work. I enjoy digging into complicated financial problems, finding patterns, tracing things back to their source, and turning messy information into something clear and useful. Sometimes that means untangling a reconciliation or making sense of a report. Other times, it means rethinking an entire process so the work becomes easier, faster, and more reliable.

My background is in accounting and nonprofit financial operations, with hands-on experience in reconciliations, reporting, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, grant-funded programs, audit preparation, and process improvement. I've become someone colleagues turn to when something needs figuring out, even when the answer isn't immediately obvious.

That's the kind of relationship I want to build through Black Fern. I want you to feel comfortable bringing me a question, a frustrating spreadsheet, or a financial problem you aren't sure how to solve. I'll take the time to understand what you need, be straightforward about how I can help, and point you toward the right person when something falls outside my expertise.

Above all, I want to be a dependable partner who makes your work easier and helps you spend more of your time and resources on what matters to your organization.
